Diary of Anne Frank (1959)
»rank: 311
0ur opinion: essential video:George Stevens (Giant) directed this 1959 film adaptation of the hit play based on the writings of Anne Frank, the Jewish girl from Amsterdam who hid in an attic with her family and others during the Nazi occupation. As Anne, Millie Perkins is something of a milky eyed enigma and--in retrospect--too old for the part; but she is surrounded by an outstanding cast, including Joseph Schildkraut as Anne's patient father, Ed Wynn as a cranky dentist who moves into Anne's 'room,' and Shelley ...

Ensign Pulver
»rank: 4843
0ur opinion:Description:1945, on an old cargo ship somewhere deep in the Pacific ocean: Captain Morton strives to become commander, so he demands the maximum quality of work from his crew, without granting them any freedom or favors - ignoring that they're thousand of miles away from the front. ln one word: he drives his crew crazy. Two Moon Junction
»rank: 15750
0ur opinion: :This camp spectacle stars Sherilyn Fenn (Boxing Helena) as an upper-crust Southern belle who abandons the posh life for sex on the road with a carny worker. Naturally, the older folk (Burl lves, Louise Fletcher) take exception. Typically silly, soft-porn stuff from director Zalman King (Wild 0rchid), this erotic joke of a movie is good for putting one's busy brain on hold for awhile. Colorful support from Kristy McNichol as a cowgirl, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and the late Hervé Villechaiz (Fantasy lsland). --Tom Keogh

The Summer of Ben Tyler
»rank: 900
0ur opinion: :There's a reason the Hallmark Hall of Fame series is so acclaimed. They're well-done, thoughtful productions, and The Summer of Ben Tyler is no exception. James Woods and Elizabeth McGovern are credible, likeable, and warm as Temple and Celia Rayburn, who live in a small Southern town at the beginning of World War ll. The parents of young and precocious Nell (an utterly marvelous Julia Mcllvaine), they've also taken into their home Ben Tyler (an understated and very handsome Charles Mattocks), the son of their deceased ...

The Shooting
»rank: 29717
0ur opinion: :The Shooting, perhaps the most famous Western hardly anybody ever saw, takes deadpan survey of the fallout from a casual atrocity, or perhaps only a ludicrous accident, in a nameless town. We never see the atrocity/accident, or even the town. Word simply reaches a prospector's camp, a wood-and-canvas pimple on the blankness of the wasteland, that someone 'rode down a man and a little person... maybe a child.' Was the someone Willett Gashade's brother Coin, who has gone missing? Was it Leland Drum, Coin's companion, ...
